Gardens of Babur is one of the oldest and most historic gardens in Kabul, with a history spanning nearly five centuries. It is recognized as a symbol of Afghanistan’s history and cultural identity.

This garden was built at the order of Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, on the hillside of Sher Darwaza in southern Kabul. Today, it houses seven historical monuments.

Officials of the garden say that Babur Shah had a great love for nature and gardens, and according to his wishes, he was buried in this very garden.

Masood, the manager of Babur Garden, spoke about the historical landmarks of this site, stating: "The Queen’s Palace, Babur Shah’s tomb, Shah Jahan’s tomb, the historic wall, the water canal, and the caravanserai are among the seven significant monuments in this garden.

Mohammad Ikram, an elderly gardener who has worked here for over 17 years and holds many memories of its past.

Speaking about the garden’s former prosperity, he said: "In the past, especially during Eid al-Adha and Nowruz, many people would come here for leisure, and the garden’s revenue was high. But now, it’s not the same. I have been a gardener here for 17 years, and now I am 70 years old."

Babur Garden is not just a historical site but also a place of tranquility and a gateway to the past. Beyond its beautiful architecture, it represents the connection between history and nature. The restoration and preservation efforts for this garden demonstrate how cultural heritage can be maintained and revived.
