Herat Honors the 1050th Birth Anniversary of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari

A number of cultural figures and poets in Herat held a ceremony to commemorate the 1050th birth anniversary of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari.

The event was held at the shrine of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari in Gazar Gah, with the participation of intellectuals, religious scholars, and enthusiasts of Islamic mysticism.

Mir Mohammad Arham, the custodian of the shrine of the "Sage of Herat," told TOLOnews: “This grand ceremony was held to honor the high status of Sheikh al-Islam and to mark the birth anniversary of Khwaja Sahib Ansari.”

Khwaja Abdullah Ansari was born in Herat in the 5th century AH (Islamic calendar) and is regarded as a pioneer of Persian Islamic mysticism. He authored enduring works such as Munajat Namah, Sad Maydan, Kashf al-Asrar, and Ilahi Namah.

According to cultural experts, the works of the Sage of Herat have drawn attention not only in Afghanistan and neighboring countries but across the Islamic world.

Wali Shah Bahra, a cultural affairs expert, stated: “Undoubtedly, such gatherings are bridges that connect future generations with those of the past and present. It is our duty to preserve this heritage with full awareness.”

Gul Ahmad Nazari Aryana, another cultural analyst, said: “With such spiritual richness, literary depth, and mystical thought, we can stand firm and resist the negative influences of the materialistic world.”

Experts believe that Khwaja Abdullah Ansari's writings have always been embraced by lovers of Sufism due to their simplicity, sincerity, and spiritual depth.

He was born in Herat in 385 (solar year) and passed away in 467. More than 25 mystical and literary works of the Sage of Herat remain, studied and admired by enthusiasts of Persian literature and Islamic mysticism.
