‘The Song Of Scorpions’ Bags Five Awards At Afghan Film Festival

"The Song of Scorpion" directed by Geneva-based Indian filmmaker Anup Singh got the highest number of awards at the Fifth International Women’s Film Festival - Herat in Kabul which ended on Thursday evening.

At least 47 films from 30 countries were selected to compete in the festival.

“The Song of Scorpions” staring Iranian actor Golshifteh Farahani and Indian actor Erfan Khan is a story of twisted love, revenge and the redemptive power of a song.

The movie got awards for best actor (male), best actor (female), best director, best writer, and best film.

Meanwhile, movies from Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, Chile, and India got different awards in various categories.

The movies were screened in different cinema halls in Kabul, including Kahkashan, Ariana, and the central cinema hall at Kabul University. People in Bamiyan, Nangarhar and Herat provinces also watched the movies on small screens.

“The awards were chosen impartially and based on the characteristics of the movies,” said Rokhsan Bani Adam, an Iranian filmmaker.

“As an Indian, I feel very proud… It is just a beautiful film and I am very happy that Anup Singh has got it,” Indian filmmaker Anahita Chakarwati said.

Afghan filmmaker Roya Sadat, who organized the event, said 200 films were initially competing in the festival from which, the selection committee handed 47 movies to the international juries committee.

“The awards given to the awards are special. They are made by hand and lapis lazuli has been used in it,” Sadat said.
