Community Mourns Performers Jalili and Tajzai

Comedian Asif Jalali, 60, and actor and writer Asadullah Tajai, 77, died on Wednesday. Cultural figures, actors and officials came out to mourn their passing.

Asif Jalali, a comedian, died in a Kabul hospital and on Thursday his funeral was held and he was buried in Kabul city. His family said he died of a heart attack.

Ahmad Monir Yousufi, a friend of Jalalim, said “Jalali was a brave and courageous man.”

Fazl Rahman, a poet, said: “He was very famous and brought laughter to a million people’s lips, but now the laughing is over.”

“As you see, the people came here with many problems and despite the snow. This shows that people loved him and will always remember him,” said Nabi Tanha, an actor.

Jalali was actor in films, but he was famous as a comedian on television.

He learned the comedian profession by himself.

Asadullah Tajzia, another personality in Afghan theater and cinema, also died on Thursday.

Tajzia was an actor and also wrote many sketches, radio programs, book and dramas.

Sahraa Karimi, head of Afghan Film, said:

“Unfortunately, in the past years neither the government nor the cultural activists launched any programs to reduce the poverty with which our artists are faced.”

 Homayoun Pyaz, an actor who was a close friend of Tajzai, described him as one of the best actors in the country.

“He was a talented guy and played in many television and cinematic films,” said Pyaz.

Asadullah Tajzai passed away last Wednesday. His family said he had been admitted to a hospital a month earlier.
