Govt To Open ARG’s Harem To Public

Government has launched the Change of ARG’s Feature project based to open the harem of ARG – the Presidential Palace – to public to show the good and bad of the past kings to the people.

The harem has ancient artifacts and government wants to collect them and give them name and register their history. The harem dates back to over a hundred years and is the oldest part of the ARG.

TOLOnews journalist, Tamim Hamid, who visited the harem says no technical and professional efforts have been made to identify the ancient pieces.

The artifacts remained in ARG reflect the styles of the reigns of different kings in various eras.

“Harem is a place where people visit and see their past and find their identity. They may not be happy with a part of the identity they find here,” said Farkhunda Zahra Naderi, President Ghani’s advisor for the United Nations affairs.

In the recent decade’s changes and transitions, ARG was also damaged and a number of ancient pieces were stolen.

Khawja Zainulabuddin, an official at the harem, said he has worked for the past 20 years.

He said his colleagues have done their best to save the artifacts in that part of the ARG.

“Once an official from the Ministry of information and Culture was asked by (former president Hamid) Karzai to come here and identify the antiquity of the ancient pieces. The required work was not done; the official only said the Harem Palace itself is a historical place,” he said.

The reconstruction of the harem was started six months ago in which 35 rooms and other parts of the harem including a cinema hall will be repaired.
