BAZAR: Pre-Paid Electricity Meters Discussed

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, an energy supply company, is considering rolling out a pre-paid electricity system in order to ensure consumers pay for the service and in the hope of reducing electricity usage.

Officials at the company said that the first phase will involve the smart meters being installed at government institutions and industrial parks. Consumers will have to purchase an electricity voucher each time they need to top up their power – the system works much the same as a pre-paid cellphone system – where a voucher number is then entered into the machine.

In this episode host Zarmina Mohammadi discusses the topic with Ahmad Khalid Stanikzai, commercial head of DABS.

Mohammadi also discusses the reduction of tariffs for the import of raw materials used in oil refineries with Tawfiq Dawari, deputy head of ACCI.

In addition, Mohammadi discusses the issue of protests around the postponement of the construction of the Tang-e-Logar - Char Asiab road in Kabul with Mahdi Rouhani, spokesman for the ministry of public works.
