Afghan Journalist Mina Khairi, Her Mother Laid to Rest

Mina Khairi, an anchor at Ariana News, and her mother who were killed on Thursday afternoon’s blast in Kabul were laid to rest on Saturday.

Khairi’s father described the killing as an unforgivable act and criticized the government for being failed to provide security to the people.

Mina’s sister was badly wounded in the blast.

Khairi was on way to home when a bomb struck a minivan in which she and her mother were traveling. Two other civilians were also killed in the blast.

“It is against Islamic principles. A human never conducts such an act. They destroyed thousands of families,” said Arif Khairi, Mina’s father.

“We are saddened by this, but this does not meant that we do not continue our way. This journey will continue,” said Sharif Hassanyar, the head of Ariana News.

Mina was 23 years old. She had a bachelor degree on economics.

“They should take security seriously. We call on the government to prevent this trend,” said Mohammad Hashem, a taxi driver in Kabul.

“Government officials do not focus on the lives of the people,” a resident of Kabul Mohammad Asghar said.

This comes at a time that security threats and attacks on civilians have dramatically increased in Kabul, particularly in the western parts of the city.

Last month, blasts targeted a girls school in the area and killed over 90 girls.
