Afghani fell against the dollar on Saturday as people flocked to banks to withdraw their savings amidst sweeping battle gains by the Taliban.
On Saturday morning, one dollar increased to nearly 100 Afs from 80 Afs last week, but it declined to 86 Afs later in the day.
Kabul residents raised deep concerns over long lines near ATMs in the city. Moreover, some soldiers have not been paid for months.
“Provinces and districts are falling. The result is what you see today,” said Dad Gul, referring to the long lines near ATMs in the city.
“We shouldn’t repeat the past experience of emptying the banks,” said economic analyst Sayed Massoud.
