Officials: Nearly 8 Billion Afs Made From Mining in Past 12-Month

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said that in the solar year 1400 the ministry's revenue reached nearly eight billion Afghanis.

Officials at the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said that 113 large and small companies are operating in the mining sector in Afghanistan, and the Islamic Emirate has earned nearly eight billion afghanis from the mining sector.

“The revenue we have received over the past six months is about seven billion seven hundred and seventy-one million, or about eight billion afghanis,” said Esmatullah Burhan, spokesman of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.

Meanwhile, the deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate credited transparency and the prevention of illegal extraction from the mines as the reasons for the increase.

“Transparency and serious efforts to reach other mines in Afghanistan, especially the proper extraction of mines, are the main reason for the increase in revenues of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum,” said Inamullah Samangani, deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

In the meantime, some economists believe that the proper extraction of mines can increase the country's revenues.

“Fortunately, after the political change in Afghanistan, the enforcement of law and security have led to an increase in government revenues through Afghanistan's mines,” said Abdul Nasir Reshtia, an economist.

However, a number of economists said that if the country's mines are extracted legally, it will provide jobs for the citizens of the country, and will solve the economic challenges in the country.
