Over $151 Million in Debt Paid Over Last Year: DABS

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has paid more than $150 million for its electricity debts from imports from Central Asian countries, the officials said.  

The officials said that work on unfinished projects of the former government is underway.  

Speaking to a press conference on annual activity, the deputy head of DABS, Asadullah Inam, said that the projects, which were being supported by foreign organization, are now supported by the government and private institutions.   

“Around 24 projects worth 261 million Afs are supported through domestic incomes and 19 projects worth 799 million Afs are under work,” he said.  

Inam said that DABS has been attempting to pay the remaining electricity debts

“Around $151.54 million have been paid to the domestic and foreign companies which provide us with electricity. and we also paid 2 billion Afs in debt that remained from the previous government,” he said.  

The head of the department of business affairs of DABS, Abdul Rahman Rahmani, said that DABS has established a computerized program in 28 of 34 provinces to facilitate payments and pave the way for transparency. 

“There were 2,019 business electricity meters which were active as residential meters, then DABS has changed their status into business electricity meters,” he said.
