Sale of Reduced-Price Coal Starts Saturday: Kabul Municipality

The municipality of Kabul said that the process of selling coal at a lower price will start on Saturday.

According to this institution, Kabul city residents can buy coal at a reduced price after having their paperwork approved by the relevant community leaders.

"People can go and get the coal they need to heat their houses by going to their community leaders and having cards that will be issued to them,” said Nematullah Barakzai, representative of Kabul municipality.

It is expected that one ton of coal will be sold at the coal distribution centers for nine thousand afghanis.

Residents of Kabul welcomed the decision of the current government and asked the Islamic Emirate to further reduce the price of coal.

"The government should pay attention to this and reduce the price so that the poor can also benefit from this,” said Naqibullah, a Kabul resident.

"I asked the government to bring the same 9,000 tons, because this nation has no money." said Abas, a seller of coal.

A number of environmental experts said that the current government should reduce the price of gas and reduce the cost of electricity in order to prevent air pollution.

"The government should have full control over the price of gas and also provide the public with adequate electricity, because if electricity and gas are not available to the citizens at an acceptable price, they will use coal and other fuel materials," said Sayed Qayom Hashimi, an expert of Environment Department.

Currently, one ton of coal is sold in the markets of the capital for more than fourteen thousand Afghani, and some citizens of the country say that they cannot afford it.
