Afghan Traders Face Severe Challenges in Withdrawing Funds: Sader Khail

The head of the Afghan Business Council, Haji Obaidullah Sader Khail, said that the Afghan traders are facing severe challenges in withdrawing money from their accounts.

He said the statement made by the Central Bank to increase the allotted amount for withdrawals has yet to come into effect.

Sader Khail said that there are still problems with money transfers as well.

“These banking problems have yet not solved. However, the Central Bank a while ago announced that the scale of withdrawal has increased. Prior to that it was less, it was 50,000 Afs, but now also as we are in contact with the banks, they don’t give us more than 20,000 Afs,” he said.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Investment and Commerce (ACCI) also urged the Central Bank to act in accordance with its recent statement about withdrawals.

“Some of the banks cannot solve the problems of the deposited money and the money of the people that it saved. The recent decision made by the Central Bank is acceptable for us,” said Mohammad Younus, acting head of the ACCI.

Last week, the Central Bank announced that clients who had money in the banks could withdraw more money than before.

But according to the businesspeople, the decision has yet to come into effect.

The residents of capital Kabul expressed concerns in this regard.

“I was withdrawing money from the bank today. They give me the amount as before: 20,000 Afs,” said Amir Hamza, a resident of Kabul.

“We have saved our money in the bank so we could withdraw it anytime we needed it,” said Sardar Wali, a resident of Kabul.

“Our demand is that whenever a decision is announced regarding the private banks, it should be implemented,” said Jamal Nasir, a resident of Kabul.

The spokesman of Da Afghanistan Bank did not respond to TOLOnews on the issue, but in an interview with RTA he said that they are trying to extend banking relations with international banks.

“We assure our citizens that we will manage this sector in a way so we will be able to provide better services than at any other time,” said Hassibullah Noori, a spokesman for Da Afghanistan Bank.

The transfer of money from private banks in Afghanistan abroad has been restricted after the Islamic Emirate swept into power.
