Inflation, Prices of Goods Dropped: Mujahid

The Islamic Emirate’s spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said on Twitter that research shows that the inflation rate in Afghanistan has dropped and that the price of goods in Afghanistan are cheaper than many developed and under-developed countries.

This comes as the World of Statistics on Twitter released the new inflation rate of countries, which shows that the inflation rate in Afghanistan dropped by -1 percent.

The Deputy Minister of Economy Abdul Latif Nazari said that surges in exports, support for domestic products and the prevention of smuggling of dollars as well as stability of Afghan currency are the main reasons for the inflation drop in the country.

“The reasons that we were able to reduce the inflation rate were the increase of exports and the decrease in price of food and fuel,” he said.

Economists suggested that Afghanistan’s trade should increase with regional and world countries to improve the country’s economy.

“Our main preparations should be to keep the balance between export and imports. The reason that the Afghan currency remained stable against the dollars is because of good exports,” said Shamsul Haq Shams, an economist.

“To improve the economy, there is a need to focus on agricultural products, also exports and attracting investment in the country,” said Seyar Qureshi, an economist.

Speaking at a meeting with former military officials, the acting Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir said that Afghanistan will “soon” reach self-sufficiency with food products.

“If the economy of the people is improved, the economy of the government is improved. When the economy of the government is improved the existing problems are solved,” he said.

Earlier, the World Bank said in a report that the economic outlook in Afghanistan has stabilized on returning aid flows and that “output growth is expected to turn positive in the next two years.”
