EU Allocates Over 30 Million Euros to Afghanistan

Peteris Ustubs, Director for Asia, Central Asia, Pacific and Middle East at the European Union, in a meeting with the Acting Minister of Economy, Din Mohammad Hanif, said that the EU has allocated more than 30 million euros to Afghanistan.

Abdul Rahman Habib, the spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that the funds are intended to support the private sector, small enterprises, provide loans to female entrepreneurs, and combat climate change in Afghanistan.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Economy, Ustubs mentioned that the European Union plans to implement various projects worth 20 million euros in 250 villages to prevent climate change, which will create job opportunities for 30,000 people in Afghanistan.

"The strengthening of the private sector, the growth of small businesses, support for female entrepreneurs and investors, and the allocation of small loans have earmarked 11.1 million euros," Abdul Rahman Habib added.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy said that during this meeting the acting Minister of Economy welcomed the aid and called for the continuation of assistance in infrastructure and development sectors.

Meanwhile, some Canadian media have reported that Ottawa will resume its developmental aid to Afghanistan this current year.

Sayed Masood, an economist, said: "The arrival of Canadians and Europeans should be seen as a positive omen, especially for the market and the people, which is very important and if managed correctly can be extraordinarily beneficial."

Some economic experts believe the resumption of activities by some aid organizations and EU assistance to Afghanistan will play a crucial role in improving human conditions and reducing poverty in the country.

Abdul Nasir Rashtia, an economist, said: "After the political changes in the country, this aid was generally cut off or reduced. Hence, if donor countries resume this aid, especially in the economic sector, it will undoubtedly create employment opportunities for the people."

Previously, the European Union had also announced the signing of a cooperation memorandum with the International Organization for Migration worth 17.7 million euros aimed at addressing the challenges faced by returning migrants to Afghanistan.
