The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that last year trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan amounted to $281 million.
Abdulsalam Javad Akhundzada, spokesperson for the ministry, provided data indicating that out of this amount, $23 million was from exports.
Carpets, dried fruit, sesame seeds, and juices have been exported from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan.
“We have bilateral trade with Uzbekistan. In 1402 we had US$281 million worth of trade with the country in which exports accounted for US$23 million and imports for US$258 million,” said Akhundzada.
Meanwhile, the Central Asia news outlet, quoting the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Uzbekistan, reported that the country has agreed to ink export contracts worth $44 million with Afghanistan. According to the report, these contracts were signed during a three-day visit by a delegation of Afghan businessmen to Tashkent.
The report also mentions that the two countries are planning to establish an Uzbekistan-Afghanistan trade council, which will include 18 Afghan companies.

Some economic experts consider the signing of these trade agreements between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan influential in developing Afghanistan's trade relations with the region.
“Such agreements can play a positive role in increasing the amount of exports and GDP of Afghanistan. The increase in exports and domestic products, domestic income and meeting foreign demands can benefit the country’s economy,” said Seyar Qureshi, an economic expert.
“Uzbekistan trade with Afghanistan is very important because we can learn many things in terms of raising and growing our economy from Uzbekistan,” said Ferdous Behgzen, an economic expert.
According to the Central Asia newspaper, the value of Afghanistan's import market is estimated at seven billion dollars. The report states that agricultural products, processed food items, textiles, leather, electrical parts, and constructional materials are the most demanded goods among Afghan importers.
