The Ministry of Finance and the private sector signed an agreement for the installation of electronic scanners at 12 customs ports in the country.
Sultan Mohammad Zubair, Deputy Policy Minister of Finance, stated that the installation of these scanners will prevent the smuggling of historical artifacts, narcotics, and military equipment.
This project, with a cost of nearly eight billion afghani, is set to begin in the near future. It includes the installation of 24 large electronic scanners and 33 small scanners.
Sultan Mohammad Zubair said, "By installing these scanners, the rate of criminal activities can be significantly reduced, and the smuggling of Afghanistan's historical and monetary assets can be prevented."
According to the Deputy Policy Minister of Finance, no system similar to the one being activated in Afghanistan exists in neighboring countries.
Ahmad Zia Khalid, head of Facilitation and Investment at the Administrative Office, said at the signing ceremony: "The mentioned project will see an investment of 113 million US dollars, equivalent to nearly 8 billion afghani, and will be completed in two years."
Furthermore, the private company with which the agreement was signed has pledged that the scanners will be activated using advanced tools. According to the head of this private company, the construction of these scanners will take two years.
Najmuddin Sayas, the head of the private company, said, "We pledge to the Islamic Emirate that we will use every possible resource for the equipment and modernization of the country's customs."
Officials stated that with the implementation of this project, substantial revenue will be collected for the Islamic Emirate, and direct and indirect employment opportunities will be provided for 2,000 people.
