Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said that a delegation from the caretaker government wishes to participate in the BRICS summit, which is scheduled to take place in less than a month in Kazan, Russia.
The deputy spokesperson added that this summit, which will commence on October 22, will focus on economic and trade discussions.
Fitrat said: "Afghanistan is a developing country and is currently experiencing economic growth. It is very important for Afghanistan to be present at this economic summit. The Islamic Emirate is keen to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit and has shared this desire with the host country."
Meanwhile, several economic experts consider the BRICS summit a good opportunity to attract investment in Afghanistan and to enhance the country's economic relations.
"This summit will indeed have a positive impact on economic matters because there might be major decisions made in reducing poverty, addressing migration, and aiding the poor and destitute people," Abdul Shukor Hadawal, an economic expert, told TOLOnews.
BRICS is the name of a group led by emerging economic powers, formed by combining the first letters of the English names of countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Earlier, the foreign ministers of the BRICS countries had highlighted the need for peaceful resolution of Afghanistan's challenges and the immediate provision of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, in a joint statement.
