The Ministry of Energy and Water says it is working to implement the project for Panjshir water transfer to Kabul through private investment.
Matiullah Abid, the spokesperson for this ministry, told TOLOnews that the project’s proposal has been sent to the office of the Islamic Emirate’s leader for approval.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Water said: "The project regarding how to transfer Panjshir’s water has been completed by the Ministry of Energy and Water and is now sent for approval to the office of Amir al-Mu'minin . The Ministry is striving to secure the budget for this project through donors or private investment and to start the work."
The Chamber of Commerce and Investment said that domestic investors are ready to invest in this significant project.
Khan Jan Alokozay, a member of the executive committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: "Domestic and foreign investors are interested in participating in this project because it is truly profitable."
Some experts believe that transferring water from Panjshir requires substantial investment and more time. Therefore, initially, the construction of the Bagh Dara Dam and the canals of Shah-wa-Aros dam should be prioritized.
Amanullah Ghalib, former head of Breshna Company, said: "If the government lacks financial capacity, it can secure funding for this project through donors and by encouraging the private sector to invest. The government can also support the project by providing funds for the sale and management of water, which would solve the issue."
The shortage of drinking water and the depletion of groundwater in the capital are serious concerns, which worry not only the officials of the Islamic Emirate but also the residents of Kabul.
This comes as the governor of Kabul, in a meeting with several foreign organizations yesterday, requested their cooperation in securing and managing water in the capital with the Islamic Emirate.
