Agriculture Ministry Announces Significant Increase in Wheat Yield

Misbahuddin Mustaeen, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, told TOLOnews that over the past three years, wheat production has increased from 3.5 million tons to 5 million tons annually.

He also mentioned that to support farmers and control wheat prices in the markets, the process of purchasing and storing surplus wheat from farmers is underway in eleven provinces of the country.

The spokesperson added: "Afghanistan's production was between 3 million to 3.5 million metric tons. Alhamdulillah, over the past three years, the Islamic Emirate has been able to increase wheat production with the help of farmers, and this year our production reached 5 million metric tons."

Referring to the increase in wheat, Mustaeen said that following the decree of the leader of the Islamic Emirate regarding the purchase and storage of surplus wheat from farmers, the ministry plans to buy 38,000 tons of wheat from farmers in 13 provinces by the end of this year.

He said: "Approximately 38,000 tons will be purchased from 13 provinces, and currently the purchasing process is ongoing in 11 provinces, with the rest to be purchased soon."

Shamsur Rahman Ahmadzai, an economic analyst, told TOLOnews: "This is a timely move by the government to purchase and store the available wheat in the market, as it will be a great service for the people during the winter. Many people cannot meet their basic needs due to economic difficulties."

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock reported that since the leader of the Islamic Emirate's decree, they have distributed nearly 100,000 tons of improved seeds and 200,000 tons of chemical fertilizer to farmers with the cooperation of domestic and foreign organizations.
