Central Bank Pushes for Islamic Banking at Bahrain Conference

The Central Bank has announced that a delegation led by Noor Ahmad Agha, the head of the bank, attended the 19th meeting of the Organization for Auditing and Accounting of Islamic Financial Institutions in Bahrain.

Haseebullah Noori, the spokesperson for the Central Bank, said that during this meeting, the bank’s head emphasized the cooperation of participating countries in various areas, particularly in transforming conventional banking into Islamic banking and establishing a stable, transparent, and strong halal financial and economic system in Afghanistan.

The Central Bank’s spokesperson told TOLOnews: "He called on representatives of the institutions in this meeting to cooperate with Afghanistan in converting traditional banking to Islamic banking, as well as in providing educational and capacity-building programs."

Some economic experts believe that the participation of the Central Bank's delegation in international meetings, in addition to strengthening banking relations, also positively impacts the stability of Islamic banking in Afghanistan.

Abdul Nasir Rashtya, an economic affairs expert, told TOLOnews: “This can expedite the transformation of the conventional banking system into an Islamic banking system. Those countries have extensive experience and can help convert Afghanistan's traditional banking system to Islamic banking."

Earlier, the Central Bank of Afghanistan delegation traveled to Malaysia to attend the International Forum on Islamic Economics and Finance, where they discussed the development of Islamic banking, support for small and medium enterprises, and the development of financial markets.
