Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, stated that a delegation led by the deputy for railway from the ministry has traveled to Iran.
Haqshenas said that during this trip, the delegation will discuss cooperation via railways and increasing the volume of transport through the Herat-Khaf railway with Iranian officials.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Works mentioned that the transfer process via the Herat-Khaf railway is proceeding normally, saying: “In this meeting, both sides discussed important issues comprehensively, including increasing transfers through the third section of the Herat-Khaf railway, enhancing the technical capacity of Afghan railway staff, and exploring joint investment opportunities in the development of railway infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, considering the importance of this delegation’s visit, emphasized attracting greater cooperation from Iran in the field of railways with Afghanistan. The chamber sees railway transport as impactful in reducing costs.
“According to an agreement previously held between Iran and India, facilities should be provided at Chabahar Port, existing issues resolved, and the congestion of ships reduced slightly so that we can transfer export and import goods through Chabahar Port,” said Mir Zaman Popal, Administrative and Financial acting Head of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment.
“Recently, Iran’s railway was established. If it is further developed, it will benefit both traders and the region. It is a low-cost corridor that can facilitate exports with Pakistan and India,” said Mirwais Haji Zada, a businessman.
Previously, a delegation from the Ministry of Public Works participated in the 81st meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Railway Transport Council in Uzbekistan. On the sidelines of this meeting, they also discussed implementing joint railway projects and the transport of commercial goods via railways with railway officials from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
