The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock has announced that a joint meeting emphasized strengthening inter-agency cooperation to expedite the construction process of the Qosh Tepa Canal.
Misbahuddin Mustaeen, spokesperson for the ministry, said the meeting discussed challenges, solutions, and the progress of work in phase two of the canal.
Speaking to TOLOnews about the meeting, the spokesperson added: “A session was chaired by Attaullah Omari, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, with the participation of leaders from several other institutions. The goal of this meeting was to accelerate and improve the implementation process of the Qosh Tepa Canal project to advance the second phase more quickly.”
The meeting was attended by representatives from the ministries of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, as well as Energy and Water, the Policy Directorate of Administrative Affairs, the National Development Company, representatives from the Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office, and other experts.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Industries and Mines described the Qosh Tepa Canal as one of the foundational projects for the country’s economic growth.
Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, Deputy Head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Industries and Mines, said: “Qosh Tepa, one of Afghanistan’s major economic projects, presents an opportunity for water management and mechanizing agriculture. It sets the stage for developing Afghanistan’s agribusiness sector, allowing us to mechanize farming, process and package agricultural products, and boost exports.”
Abdul Jabbar Safi, Head of the Kabul Industrialists Association, told TOLOnews: “If a similar approach is taken across economic, social, and agricultural sectors, this project will significantly benefit Afghans in water management, agriculture, and the economy.”
According to statistics from the National Development Company, 81% of the excavation work for phase two of the Qosh Tepa Canal has been completed, with 60 contracting companies working round the clock on the project.
