Pakistan, Uzbekistan Push Trans-Afghan Railway

Pakistani media reported that Uzbekistan and Pakistan have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Trans-Afghan railway project through Afghanistan.

According to these reports, the two countries have agreed to form a trilateral committee with Afghanistan to address obstacles to the project's implementation.

Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif has described this project as important for the region and added that both Pakistan and Uzbekistan are committed to its execution.

" We discuss today Trans- Afghan railway project, which is a huge project in dealing about more than 7 billion dollars in investment. Brother, the president is deeply committed to undertaking this project and I can assure you that this project will be a game-changer. It will be a corridor from Uzbekistan via Afghanistan to Pakistan and this will transform trade in the entire region,” stated the prime minister of Pakistan.

Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Works, emphasizing the importance of the Trans-Afghan project for both Afghanistan and the region, stated that the Islamic Emirate is ready to cooperate in starting the project's practical work.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, said about this project: "Afghanistan is fully prepared for the practical work of this project to begin on its soil, and the Ministry of Public Works of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan welcomes and collaborates with the countries working towards the implementation of this project."

"The Trans-Afghan project holds great significance for Afghanistan as well. Since it passes through Afghanistan, it will create job opportunities and, in addition, will facilitate trade exchanges significantly,” said Qutbuddin Yaqubi, an economic affairs expert.

Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, during his recent visit to Uzbekistan, also urged the deputy prime minister of Uzbekistan to commence the practical work of the Trans-Afghan project as soon as possible.
