Afghanistan’s Ministry of Economy has announced that 370 projects funded by the national budget have been implemented across the country during the solar year 1403.
According to Abdul Rahman Habib, spokesperson for the ministry, these projects have mainly been carried out in the infrastructure sector, and their implementation has provided employment opportunities for thousands of citizens.
“In the year 1403, 370 development projects have been funded through internal revenues and the development budget of the Islamic Emirate, which also includes 873 sub-projects at the provincial level,” the spokesperson stated.
However, an economic expert, pointing to the limited job opportunities in the country, emphasized the need for more infrastructure projects.
“It is very important for us to know how much work is being done in the economic and infrastructure sectors because its impact will be tangible in the future,” stated Shams Rahman Ahmadi, an expert in economic affairs.
Meanwhile, some Kabul residents, expressing concerns over unemployment, have called on the Islamic Emirate to create more job opportunities.
“If there is work, I will work. If there is none, I have these problems—from paying rent to other issues we all are facing,” said Mohammad Yaseen, a Kabul resident.
“We ask the government to take initiatives and create job opportunities for the people,” said Ghulam Sakhi, another resident of Kabul.
Poverty and unemployment remain among the most pressing challenges in Afghanistan.
According to data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), more than half of Afghanistan's population needs humanitarian assistance.
