The Breshna Company has announced that it has initiated plans with a total capacity of 503 megawatts to boost domestic electricity production.
Hekmatullah Maiwandi, the company’s spokesperson, emphasized that technical discussions with both domestic and foreign investors are currently underway for the implementation of these projects.
“We have planned to generate 503 megawatts of electricity from domestic sources, and these projects are progressing under a defined framework. Fortunately, part of these projects has already been contracted,” he added.
Although electricity is a fundamental need for sectors such as industry, trade, and agriculture, Afghanistan has so far paid limited attention to domestic energy production.
Some economic experts stress that producing electricity from internal sources would be a significant step toward the country’s self-sufficiency.
“Unfortunately, Afghanistan still relies on imports for energy supply. If we can generate electricity from domestic sources, it will create employment and prevent capital outflow,” said Abdul Nasir Reshtia, an economic analyst.
“Currently, Afghanistan imports its energy needs from neighboring countries. Therefore, investing in domestic electricity production can reduce this dependency,” stated another economic expert, Qutbuddin Yaqubi.
Earlier, Breshna had also announced that more than four billion Afghanis from the national budget have been spent on power distribution projects across the country.
