Finance Minister Presents Draft Budget For Next Year

Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi on Monday presented next year’s budget to senators in the Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament) .

Hakimi said next year's budget will be arranged according to global standards, and that the security sector will be given the bigger portion of money.

"The national budget has been built on important and top priority programs," he said adding, "we are trying to prevent a delay with projects by setting a standardized budget."

Based on statistics from the Ministry of Finance, the total budget for 1397 (Persian year) is more than 357 billion AFs, of which more than 267 billion AFs is the regular budget and over 90 billion AFs is part of the development budget.

The government says more than half of the national budget is to be funded by the international community next year.

Meanwhile, senators said their suggestions regarding the budget had been ignored.

"We are aware that you, by means of a vote of approval of the ministers, included in the budget a number of projects at the request of MPs in parliament, if so, we will disclose some revelations that the government will be very distrustful of," said Zalmai Zabuli, a member of the Senate.

Meanwhile, the finance minister said this year his ministry has collected more in national revenue than budgeted for.

He also said that in October, spending on development budget by budget units was at forty-two percent, and next year the units will spend most of their budgets.
