The Independent Election Commission (IEC), has “finalized all decisions” on the recounted votes and it will likely announce the preliminary results of the presidential polls on Wednesday, election commissioner Awrangzeb said.
The commissioner said the election process is in an “exceptional stage” and that the commission should decide on it.
The results were delayed three times due to rifts over almost 300,000 disputed votes.
“I cannot say exactly whether we will announce it today (Tuesday) or tomorrow (Wednesday), but we will announce the preliminary results,” Awrangzeb said.
But some protesting campaign teams warned that the commission should first address concerns over the 300,000 votes and then announce the results.
“The country will head towards a crisis if the results are announced without solving the problem and addressing the concerns of protesting teams,” said Humayun Jarir, an observer from presidential candidate Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s campaign team.
