IECC to Recount Votes of a Thousand centers in 20 Provinces

Afghanistan`s Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) said on Wednesday that their investigation reveals that approximately 1,000 polling centers in 15 to 20 provinces need recounting process again.

Chaman Shah Etemadi, head of the secretariat of the IECC, said that IECC coordinate the recounting process with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and will start the process in the upcoming week.

“The statistic of polling centers which going to the recounting will not be more, but in the majority of provinces the recounting process will be hold,” added Etemadi.

IECC said that based on the law the recounting process is the task of IEC and will coordinate with them.

Habiburrahman Nang, head of the IEC`s secretariat said, “we are completely committed to work and coordinate with the IECC.”

Based the IECC`s calendar they should finalize the complaints result up to the next Monday of the upcoming week, however the observer organizations doubted about this.

Khalil Raoufi, member of the Alliance of Election Observer Groups for Transparency said, “the capacity of IECC and the complaints are not comparable, the capacity is low, and the complaints are high, the IEC coordination is also questionable.”

The IECC started its work to investigate 16,500 complaints on December and should finalize the complaints in the upcoming two weeks by the law.
