Over 16,200 complaints have been filed by the election campaigns, officials from the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) said on Wednesday.

 The complaints registration has now come to an end, said the IECC officials.

 This comes days after the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced that President Ashraf Ghani had earned 923,868 votes and 50.64% , to lead the preliminary results of the 2019 presidential election.

 But Ghani’s rival Abdullah Abdullah challenged the results and said that he will not accept it unless all complaints and electoral violations are investigated.

 The IECC is now set to start the verification of the complaints on Thursday.

 The complaints verification process will be completed within two weeks.

 “We are assuring the people of Afghanistan that we will investigate all complaints and will issue our judgement based on the law and the procedures,” said Qutbuddin Roydar, an IECC commissioner.

 Meanwhile, Amrullah Saleh, Ghani’s first running mate said that they had registered over 4,000 complaints with the complaints commission.

 Saleh said that some of the candidates actually did not believe in the election and wanted an interim government, which is exactly in the "interest of Pakistan” and “our enemy.”

 Saleh said that all his team’s complaints submitted to the IECC are based on documents.

 Saleh: ‘Based on our team’s estimate, our team votes are 55%, and 18,000 votes are missing and we don’t have information about those votes.”

 But some other campaigns have called on the IECC not to accept any political pressure.

 “Our expectation from the commission is to handle the complaints based on the law,” said Saifurrahman Habibi, member of Peace and Islamic Justice campaign.

 “The Stability and Convergence team has filed over 8000 complaints, we hope that all complaints of the election campaigns are addressed,” said Javad Qadery, member of Stability and Convergence team.
