Jalili Vows To Boost Governance If Elected

Presidential candidate Sayed Noorullah Jalili on Sunday convened his first campaign rally in Kabul where he outlined his vision for the country ahead of September polls.

Mr. Jalili said he has not entered the presidential race to secure his reach to power and that his intention is only to sever the nation.

Lashing out at the policies of the government leaders, Mr. Jalili said that those holding dual citizenship will not have a place in his government.

“We will take the political power and national assets from the monopoly of these aristocrats and sons of ministers... and dual passport holders. And we will transfer it to vulnerable people and to patriotic citizens of this country,” he added.

Mr. Jalili pledged that his government will take serious action against those receiving high salaries and vowed to increase schoolteachers’ salary to Afs70,000, from the current monthly Afs10,000.

“I have made the bricks with my own hands and arrived at this stage after suffering poverty. I want to take Afghanistan out of this situation,” Mr. Jalili vowed.

Mr. Jalili said peace should come to the country at any cost but raised his concerns over a hasty withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan.

“If the Taliban militiamen pour into the cities of Afghanistan with light and heavy weapons, what will happen here? Will they differentiate between the innocent and the guilty? Do you think these ‘liar’ leaders will stay alongside us? Never. You should be confident that all of them will escape,” Mr. Jalili said.

Afghan presidential elections are scheduled for September 28 in which 18 candidates are running to secure a mandate from Afghans for a five-year term.
