Parliamentary Elections Results Still Await IECC’s Decision

The announcement of the final results of parliamentary elections for nine out of 31 provinces, including Kabul, is still pending as the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) has not completed its assessments on complaints regarding the votes of the provinces.

The new election commissioners who were appointed to the posts in March have announced the final results of six provinces.

The Chairperson of Independent Election Commission, Hawa Alam Nuristani, said the electoral complaints commission will send the results of its assessments on Friday.

“This problem has remained to us from former commissioners,” she Sid. “Despite having other priorities, we should spend time on this difficult task.”

The electoral complaint commission has not commented on completion of its assessments.

“Today, we mentioned about the Kabul issue, but the complaints commission said first they will finish a few provinces that they are working on and then they will work on Kabul elections,” Nuristani added.

Election observer organizations asked the electoral complaints commission to secure justice in its decision about the final results.

“There is no timetable to obligate them to finish the work based on the plan because we have crossed the timetable of elections. But the important thing is that they, at least, should maintain justice to the extent they are able to,” said Yusuf Rasheed, CEO of Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan.
