Afghanistan Records 973 New Coronavirus Cases, 67 Deaths

The Ministry of Public Health on Saturday reported 973 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 3,442 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 67 deaths and 350 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period, up from over 50 daily deaths in the last seven days.

Afghanistan so far has recorded 89,861 positive cases and 3,516 deaths from COVID-19.

So far, 523,244 samples have been tested in government centers and there are 24,438 known active COVID-19 cases in the country, data by the ministry indicates.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,785,243 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 175,284,099.

This comes as UN’s Afghan mission, UNAMA, announced on Saturday that an additional 468,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will be provided to Afghanistan.
