887 New Cases of COVID-19, 66 Deaths Reported in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 887 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 2,930 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 66 deaths and 966 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period.

This is the second sharp drop in reported new cases and deaths in the past week. Recoveries are also on the rise.

Addressing a press conference, Acting Minister of Public Health, Wahid Majorh, asked the people to celebrate Eid in their homes and to avoid gatherings, traditional greetings and going to each other’s homes during the festival to contain the spread of the virus.

He warned that COVID-19 cases will reach a peak once again if the people stay indifferent to health advice by the ministry.

Majroh said that the third wave of the coronavirus is lessening in many provinces.

He added that 30,000 to 45,000 people get COVID-19 vaccination shots every day, but the campaign is marred by insecurity and ongoing clashes in various parts of the country. He said their goal is to increase daily vaccinations to 60,000 people.

Data by the Public Health Ministry shows that the total number of cases is 141,499, total deaths stand at 6,213 and total recoveries are at 88,578.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the world stands at 190,089,665 and total deaths are at 4,084,395, according to Johns Hopkins University.
