COVID-19: 320 New Cases, 28 Deaths Reported in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 320 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 1,991 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 28 deaths and 532 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period. The figures show a slight increase in the number of new cases and fatalities compared to the daily report on Saturday, which was 218 cases and 10 fatalities, but it is lower than the daily cases reported during the last week of July.

The Ministry of Public Health says that the COVID-19 cases are descending.

Data by the ministry shows that the total number of cases is 150,778 and the total number of reported fatalities is 6,936.

This comes as public universities were reopened on Saturday in all provinces after three months of closure as part of COVID-19 prevention measures, but students have been instructed to get vaccinated against the virus or they will not be allowed to attend their classes.

Meanwhile, a batch of almost 144,000 doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine arrived in Kabul from France on Sunday.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally is 202,351,217 and the total number of deaths is 4,278,683, according to Johns Hopkins University.
