The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) criticized the distribution of medical assistance provided by aid organizations, suggesting that the aid must be distributed in coordination with the MoPH.

The officials within the MoPH called for further aid by donors for the Afghan health sector.

“The problem in distributing of aid is that it cannot reach all of Afghanistan. The aid is not provided through the Ministry of Public Health ...” said Javid Hazhir, a spokesman for the MoPH.

The Malalai Maternity Hospital, the largest maternity hospital in the country, is facing a shortage of medical supplies.

“I purchased medicine for my niece—the medicine was very expensive and we hope they provide the medicine,” said a patient.

The doctors in the Malalai Maternity Hospital confirmed the shortage of medical supplies in the hospital.

“We have problems with a shortage of staff. There is a lot of crowding and the number of patients is overwhelming,” said Shahla Urozgani, a doctor.

The United Nations Population Fund in a recent statement voiced concerns over the deteriorated situation of the Afghan health sector.

Earlier, the UN said that it will provide financial support to the Afghan health sector.
