Covid-19 Patients in Kabul Spike in Past Week

Afghan Japan Hospital officials said that the number of people infected with COVID-19 increased by 50% in the last week, and more than a hundred patients are coming to the hospital every day.

According to the officials, a lack of testing kits for COVID-19 is causing serious problems.

“Currently, we have more than 75 hospitalized patients in the hospital, and yesterday twelve patients were hospitalized in twenty-four hours, which are high figures,” said Heshmat Faizi, a doctor at the Afghan-Japan Hospital.

"Some days, 10 to 11 patients are referred to the emergency department as the number of patients in our hospital has grown,” said Ebadullah Ebad, an official of the Afghan-Japan Hospital.

The Ministry of Public Health says that in the past week 526 positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded across the country.

"In the previous week, 526 positive cases of Covid-19 were recorded across the country, three of these patients died, and 56 positive cases were reported in the past 24 hours," said Sharaf Zaman, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health.

Meanwhile, a number of Kabul residents asked the Ministry of Public Health to try and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

"In order to effectively treat COVID-19 patients and stop its spread, we ask the Ministry of Public Health to reactivate the COVID-19 hospitals in Kabul,” said Najib Allah, a resident of Kabul.

Afghan Japan Hospital is the only hospital to treat COVID-19 patients in the capital.
