Latest Shipment of Medical Aid From India Reaches Afghanistan

The foreign ministry of India said in an announcement that a 4-ton package of medical aid, consisting of COVID-19 vaccine and medicine for tuberculosis, was handed over to the Andhra Gandhi hospital in Kabul.

Officials of Andhra Gandhi hospital welcomed the aid and said they also need medical equipment and medicine.

“In our hospital we need some medicine for cancer which is very expensive; they have promised these things and InshAllah, they will help us,” said Mohammad Iqbal Sediq, deputy head of Andhra Gandhi hospital.

Afghan doctors said that Afghanistan's medical sector needs more aid and more trained staff.

“We have prepared materials that are necessary for nutrition but unfortunately we do not have enough staff in health centers to treat malnutrition.” Said Humayun Loden, a nutritionist.

“If our health centers for cancer are equipped, our countrymen will not go out of Afghanistan for treatment, they will not stand in line for a long time to get visas. We ask the international community to help us in these areas so that Afghanistan can stand on its own feet,” said Sayed Khalid Rashid, a nutritionist.
