A new section for emergency services was inaugurated in the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kabul on Tuesday.
The acting Minister of Health, Qalandar Ibad, said that the section includes 20 beds and is funded with $400,000 in cooperation with the World Health Organization.
“There was some (equipment) which was not present, so how could we call it the Infectious Disease Hospital?" he said.
“We will continue our aid to--and cooperation with--the Infectious Diseases Hospital. We will provide equipment and other necessary items for the identification of infectious
diseases,” said Mohammad Omar Mashal, who talked on behalf of WHO Afghanistan in the gathering.
The doctors of the hospital said that there has been good improvements in the quality of the hospital’s medical procedures.
“As this was inaugurated, it will help us improve by 90 percent the timely recognition of diseases and treatment. This is a good step,” said Ghulam Mehdi, a doctor.
“Because there were no such facilities previously, the doctors would refer the patients to other hospitals,” said Momin Khan, an official at WHO.
The patients expressed happiness over the inauguration of the emergency section.
“When I used to come here, there were a lot of problems and the patients were not being treated well. This time I have conducted all of my medical processes,” said
Sabawon, a patient
