In First, Gallbladder, Bladder, and Kidney Surgeries Performed in Kunar

For the first time in Kunar, surgeries for the gallbladder, bladder, and kidneys are being performed at the provincial hospital in Kunar.

The hospital officials said that previously patients had to go to Nangarhar regional hospital for the treatment of such diseases.

Rafiullah Amin, the head of the surgery department at Kunar provincial hospital, said: “Previously, there were many patients with gallstones, kidney stones, and bladder stones, and these surgeries were not performed at the provincial hospital. Patients were sent to Nangarhar regional hospital. Now, patients from Nooristan province also come to this hospital. We have many patients, and we schedule them and operate on them in turn.”

“We have a list for treatment, and every individual who comes to us for the treatment of bladder, kidney, and gallbladder stones is given an appointment and, God willing, they are operated on according to their turn,” said Mula Dad, the head of Kunar provincial hospital.

According to the officials of Kunar provincial hospital, in the past month, surgeries for 25 bladder and kidney patients have been successfully performed.

Roohullah, a resident of Asadabad city, the center of Kunar, said that his wife had been suffering from gallbladder disease for a year, and after surgery at the Kunar provincial hospital, her health condition is improving.

“She had stones in her gallbladder. I took my wife to many hospitals for treatment and finally learned that she could be treated at this hospital. I brought her here,” Roohullah, the patient’s caretaker, told TOLOnews.

Although some patients and their caretakers consider the start of major surgeries at Kunar provincial hospital a positive step, they are requesting an increase in beds for patients.

“People's request is that more departments be created here for the treatment of patients,” said Abdul Tawab Zaman, a caretaker.

“The facility is good because previously people used to spend a lot of money and go to Pakistan,” said Abdullah, another caretaker.

According to the information provided by the officials of Kunar provincial hospital, around 1,500 patients visit this hospital daily for treatment, and in the past month 450 major and minor surgeries have also been performed at this hospital.
