Residents of Yamgan district in Badakhshan said that due to the lack of medical centers and poor road conditions, maternal mortality in this district has increased.
According to them, the lack of health facilities has caused at least five women to die during childbirth in each village every year.
Fazl-ul-Haq Niazi, a resident of Badakhshan whose home is hours away from the district center, says that due to the lack of access to medical centers, one of his relatives died during childbirth.
Fazl-ul-Haq Niazi told TOLOnews: "My brother's wife was living in our house. We brought her to the clinic wrapped in a blood-stained blanket, but the doctor couldn't even administer a serum to her."
Abdul Rauf, a resident of Yamgan, said: "Almost five or six people from our village have died during childbirth, one of them was my own sister."
Ziauddin, another resident of Yamgan, added: "Several times, we have transferred pregnant patients from here to Jurm, Baharak, and Faizabad. Along the way, our patients have died."
However, local officials in Badakhshan pledged that they are addressing the health challenges of residents in remote districts of this province.
Khan Jan, the head of the health center in Yamgan district, said: "Yamgan district has a population of about five thousand people, but the existing clinics do not meet the people's needs. We need good doctors and midwives."
Aminullah Tayeb, the deputy governor of Badakhshan, added: "The Minister of Public Health came to Badakhshan province, and we discussed the lack of medicine and problems with him. So far, some assistance has been provided, and we hope for more help to come."
Previously, residents of other remote parts of Badakhshan had also called on the officials of the interim government to address their health challenges.
