The first seven days of August coincide with World Breastfeeding Week.
Nazanin, a resident of Kabul, who has hospitalized her five-month-old child in one of the hospitals, said that her child became ill due to improper breastfeeding.
Nazanin told TOLOnews: "The child has malnutrition, my milk is insufficient, and for the past two nights, the child has been hospitalized."
Maryam, the mother of another sick child, said: "We did not eat well, I had no milk, my child became malnourished."
Meanwhile, some doctors also consider breastfeeding beneficial for proper nutrition and boosting children's immunity against diseases.
Aqa Mohammad Shirzad, a doctor in Kabul, said: "When a child is born, the mother should breastfeed them an hour after birth."
Mohammad Arif Hassanzi, a doctor, said: "The child's resistance decreases, they have no resistance to infection. A child who does not use breast milk is given other foods by the mother, which may not be necessary for the child. The child gets diarrhea, the food might not be prepared hygienically, and this can lead to the transfer of infection to the child, causing various diseases."
At the beginning of this week, the representative of the World Health Organization in Afghanistan called for collective efforts to improve the status and condition of women at home, at work, and in public life for the sake of proper nutrition for children provided by mothers.
