Herat Officials Warn of Polio Spread, Urge Vaccination

Health officials in Herat said that after three years, positive samples of the polio virus have been detected in the city's sewage.

While no positive polio cases have been registered in Herat so far, officials warn that the polio virus is spreading in the environment, and this situation is concerning.

Ghulam Mohammad Hanafi, Deputy Director of Public Health in Herat, said: "In the past three months, we have had positive samples of the polio virus in Herat, which is a warning for us.

This means that the current campaign must be different from previous campaigns, meaning it must be effective and comprehensive."

Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, acting deputy governor of Herat, said: "Unfortunately, the threat level of the polio virus has risen once again. Positive polio cases have been recorded, and they belong to our compatriots who have returned from abroad. Our message to all compatriots is to vaccinate their children."

According to health officials in Herat, the registration of positive polio cases in some southern provinces also poses a threat to this province.

Meanwhile, to prevent the spread of the polio virus, a four-day polio vaccination campaign has been launched in Herat.

It is planned to vaccinate 758,000 children under the age of five in this campaign.

Shahnaz Haidari, a vaccinator, said: "I am worried about the spread of the polio virus in Kandahar and Helmand, and I am more concerned that this virus might spread to Herat. We are doing our best to prevent its spread."

Sara Mohammadi, another vaccinator, said: "Because two environmental samples of the polio virus have been registered in Herat, we are doing our utmost to ensure that no child is deprived of the vaccine. We also advise families to vaccinate their children."

The paralysis of several children in southern provinces and the detection of positive polio samples in Herat have raised concerns among the residents of this province.

Nadershah, a resident of Herat, said: "We try to vaccinate our children when the vaccinators come to our doorsteps to prevent child paralysis."

Mohammad Rasul, another resident of Herat, said: "We want our children to be vaccinated because if they are not, it is dangerous. We are concerned about the spread of the polio virus."

According to health officials, no child in Herat has contracted polio in the past three years
