The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a decrease in the number of diarrhea cases in Afghanistan in its weekly report.
According to this report, in the past week (from September 29 to October 5), 3,228 people in 179 districts of Afghanistan contracted diarrhea, showing an 11.7 percent decrease compared to previous weeks.
The organization said that three children under the age of five, including two girls, have died as a result of this illness.
According to the report, these deaths were recorded in Badakhshan and Paktika provinces.
The report also indicated that the highest number of diarrhea cases were in the provinces of Paktia, Nimroz, Logar, and Kabul.
Statistics show that for every 10,000 people, Paktia had 1,166 cases, Nimroz had 1,095, Logar had 918, and Kabul had 722 cases, making them the provinces with the highest number of infected individuals.
In this report, the WHO added that since the beginning of 2024, 146,555 people in 346 districts of Afghanistan have contracted diarrhea, and 70 people have died.
The report added that of these, 81,069 were children under the age of five, and 72,621 of the infected were women and girls.
