The Ministry of Public Health has reported an increase in the number of positive measles cases in the country compared to last year. 

Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, stated that out of 10,000 suspected measles cases this year, nearly 6,000 have tested positive, showing a rise compared to the previous year.

Amarkhil said that the Ministry of Public Health is planning to launch campaigns to combat the spread of measles. 

The spokesperson said: "The graph of positive cases has risen, and this year, we have nearly 6,000 positive cases. In the coming months, we plan to implement a national vaccination campaign, which we hope will help prevent further measles cases."

Khair Bibi, who brought her grandchild from Bamyan to one of Kabul's medical centers, spoke to TOLOnews. Explaining why her grandchild contracted measles, she said: “First, there was a fever, and then the children contracted measles. We took them to the hospital and received injections, and rashes appeared. However, this child was referred to another center, and we didn’t understand what the issue was.”

Doctors at Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital confirmed the high prevalence of this disease compared to last year, noting that it has decreased in the past two months compared to the earlier months.

"Compared to two months ago, when we admitted between 300 to 400 patients monthly, with the vaccination efforts, we are now admitting around 200 to 220 patients monthly," said Mohebullah Habibi, a doctor.

"There is no specific prevention. When a child is suspected of having measles, they usually have a fever and red eyes, and at this stage, they should be kept separate from other children," said Shukrullah Haqjo, another doctor.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health reported that in the first four months of this year, more than 3,000 positive measles cases were recorded in the country.
