16 Positive Coronavirus Cases in Afghanistan

Five new positive coronavirus cases have been reported in Afghanistan--4 in Herat and 1 in Daikundi- said Wahidullah Mayar, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, "the total positive cases in Afghanistan is now up to 16.”

“In the past 12 hours, five positive coronavirus cases have been registered in Herat and Daikundi provinces, and it brings the total positive cases to 16,” said Mayar, adding that “10 are in Herat, three in Samangan, one in Balkh, one in Daikundi and one is in Kapisa province.”

“206 samples have been tested in which 109 was negative and 16 of them were positive,” Mayar said.

On Saturday, as coronavirus cases are increasing in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Public Health said it has made preparations to provide at least 50,000 testing kits for the virus.

The Afghan government has allocated $25 million for the Ministry of Public Health to cope with the virus.

The head of government hospitals at the Ministry of Public Health, Nizamuddin Jalil, said that $7 million from the aid package has been given to the ministry, while the remaining funds have been allocated to specific areas and for provincial-based needs.

Up to 15,000 refugees are returning from Iran on a daily basis, according to local officials. Covid-19 is rapidly increasing in Iran, according to news agencies reports, which say over 600 people have died there due to the new coronavirus.

Earlier, the Chinese embassy in Kabul told TOLOnews that Beijing is ready to help in the fight against the coronavirus in Afghanistan.
