The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that the neighboring countries of Afghanistan at the Samarkand conference stressed the need for good relations with the Islamic Emirate.

The deputy spokesman for MoFA, Zia Ahmad Takal, said that the countries involved in the conference also called for the improvement of bilateral cooperation.

“This conference was very effective, during which bilateral cooperation, the political situation, and (bilateral visits) were discussed. They reached an agreement that the neighboring countries should become closer and share their opinions,” he said.

According to the spokesman, the acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, reached an agreement over the release of 200 Afghan prisoners in a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, on the sidelines of the Samarkand conference.

“The situation of Afghan inmates in Iran was discussed with Iran and the two sides reached an agreement on the cancelation of 200 Afghan inmates who were sentenced to death,” Takal said.

“I hope that there will be coordination in various ways so that the situation of Afghan refugees in Iran can develop and prevent the mistreatment toward the Afghan refugees,” said Ataullah Khogianai, an Afghan refugee in Iran.

Some political analysts said that the meeting in Uzbekistan will have positive influence in improving relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

“The participating countries have offered conditions for the Islamic Emirate. If the Islamic Emirate fulfils these conditions, the way for the Islamic Emirate’s recognition will be reopened,” said Sayed Bilal Fatimi, political analyst.

“These countries want to ensure the rights of the people and the formation of an inclusive government to put an end to the crisis in Afghanistan,” said Sayed Jawad Sijadi, university instructor.

The participants in the 4th conference of Samarkand called for the formation of an inclusive government and stressed their support for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
