Exports to Pakistan Doubled in Past Year: Joint Chamber of Commerce

The Afghanistan-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the Afghan exports to neighboring Pakistan doubled this year compared to the previous year.

The head of the joint chamber, Naqibullah Safi, said that if the existing restrictions on the banking system are lifted, the exports to Pakistan will increase.

“Our exports to Pakistan have increased compared to the previous year,” he said.

This comes as the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said that the exports to Pakistan mainly consists of fresh fruits, vegetables, talc and coal.

“Pakistan currently needs fresh fruits, vegetables, potatoes, onions and tomatoes,” said Khanjan Alokozai, a member of the ACCI.

Meanwhile, some traders accused Pakistan of playing a double game in the trade sector between the two countries.

“It is a fact that Pakistan has always played a dual role in trade with Afghanistan,” said Zalmay Azimi, a trader.

According to ACCI figures, Afghanistan’s exports to Pakistan are at $650 million since the start of 2022.
