Exploratory Study to Make Bagram Base an Economic Center Finished: Ministry

The Ministry of Economy said that the initial investigation into a plan to turn Bagram Air Force base into an economic zone has been completed.

Bagram was used as one of the main bases for US troops during the US's military presence in Afghanistan.

The deputy Minister of Economy, Abdul Latif Nazari, said that due to its expanded area, Bagram is a proper option for becoming an economic zone.

“The Bagram Air Force Base is a proper place for becoming an economic zone based on assessment. It has both potential for economic expansion and facilities,” he said.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACIM) said that it supports the plan, as Bagram is close to industrial parks.

“Bagram is both near to the factories and industrial parks. There are two or three parks located in this area. In addition to that, there are fruits and vegetables produced in Kapisa, Parwan and Panjshir,” said Khanjan Alokozai, a member of the ACIM.

On July 5, US forces completely pulled out from Bagram.
