Deputy Head of Paktia Provincial Council Killed in Attack

Ayub Gharwal, the deputy head of Paktia Provincial Council, was killed in an attack by unknown armed men in Gardez city, the provincial center, on Saturday morning, Paktia governor Halim Fedaee said. 

Gharwal was on his way to the Paktia University when he came under attack by unknown armed men in Boland Manzel area in Gardez city, Fedaee said.

He added that Gharwal was wounded in the attack and sustained to his injuries in the provincial hospital. 

Paktia police said an investigated has started into the incident.

President Ashraf Ghani in a statement condemned the attack on Ayub Gharwal and assigned a team to probe the incident. 

Ghani said that the Afghan forces fight against “terrorists and criminals” will continue. 

He called on the Taliban to agree on a humanitarian ceasefire that is the demand of all Afghans.
