Afghan Father Receives Bodies of 3 Fallen Sons on Same Day

While progress is not evident in the Afghan peace negotiation talks in Doha, the war in the country continues to take the lives of Afghan civilians and military personnel.

In Alishing district of Laghman province, an Afghan father brought home the dead bodies of three sons in one day.

He hopes that this time the Afghan warring factions will agree on a ceasefire and bring lasting peace to Afghanistan.

Currently, the war continues in several regions in 20 provinces across Afghanistan.

In this report, TOLOnews’ correspondent Sharif Amiri has tried to capture the impacts of the ongoing conflict on the Afghan people.

“There are three widows in our home. My wife and I have nearly gone mad. This is our life,” said Mohammad Salim, a resident of Alishing district who lost three sons in the fighting.

“They killed my young son, I did not have the money for his burial,” said Abdullah, another Afghan man who lost his son in fighting in Alishing.

These stories are only a small example of the impact of the war on the Afghan people. But despite the resurgence in violence, the Afghans still hope the war will be ended in the peace process.

Meanwhile, Afghan security officials in Alishing have said that their recent crackdown on the Taliban has hindered the insurgents' capacity to keep fighting.

“The operation has broken the backbone of the enemy, they do not have the power to fight” said Abdul Malik Hemat, the police commander of Alishing.

Also last week, the Taliban took over a police checkpoint in Alishing. Eventually, Afghan commandos were sent to the area to clear it of the Taliban insurgents.

“We pushed back the enemy when the commandos arrived; we inflicted major casualties on them and reopened the supply routes,” said Rahmatullah, chief of staff of the 1st Commando Battalion.
